Dr. Philip George was born in Kent, in England, in 1920 and graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1941. He received the M.A. degree in 1944, and the Ph.D. degree in 1945, working on the oxidation of liquid hydrocarbons under the direction of Professor E. E. Rideal, F.R.S., in the Department of Colloid Science.
