Bio:

From 1964 to 1965, Dr. Dempsey was special assistant for health and medical affairs in President Lyndon B. Johnson's Administration. During Dr. Dempsey's term more health legislation was enacted by Congress than in any other period.

Among the measures passed were the Health Professions Educational Assistance Act, the Aid to Medical Libraries Act, the Regional Medical Programs Act and the Community Mental Health Centers Act.

Over the years Dr. Dempsey served on national health policy boards, among them the National Advisory Health Council and the Federal Council on Science and. Technology.
He was also an active member of the scientific advisory board to the Foundation to Prevent Blindness and to the Lasker Foundation.

Dr. Dempsey had published more than 150 scientific papers on reproductive physiology, neurophysiology, histochemistry, electron miscroscopy and the neurophysiology of the brain.
