Bio:

Bettye M. Caldwell, Ph.D.
Professor of Pediatrics in Child Development and Education
Dr. Bettye Caldwell has been described as "a woman ahead of her time—usually by about 30 years." And even that seems like a bit of an understatement for this pioneer of high quality childcare programs. For more than three decades Dr. Caldwell has been a passionate leader in the area of early child development. Her far-reaching contributions to the well-being of children and their families were recognized in 2001, when she received one of the most coveted honors in her field; the Dolley Madison Award, whose past recipients have included Dr. Benjamin Spock, renowned pediatrician of "Baby and Child Care" fame, and Edward Zigler, architect of the Head Start program.
