Dr. Liu earned his PhD in polymer chemistry from the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, CAS in 2010, under the guidance of Professor Tien-Yau Luh. Following this, he embarked on a postdoctoral research career at Northwestern University, where he worked in Sir Fraser Stoddart's group from 2010 to 2018. In September 2018, Dr. Liu became the first faculty member in chemistry to begin his independent academic career at Westlake University. Throughout his career, he has authored 73 high-profile scientific publications and holds 10 patents. His research on the isolation of gold earned him recognition, receiving both the North America Chemical Engineering Project of the Year Award and the Highly Commended in Sustainable Technology Award for Innovation & Excellence from the Institution of Chemical Engineers. Furthermore, Dr. Liu is a co-founder of a startup company named Cycladex, which focuses on gold purification.
