Currently, I am a research fellow at the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, Italy.
I carried out the Joint International PhD program in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Bologna, and I work at the Laboratory in Cognitive Neuroscience of the Center for studies and research in Cognitive Neuroscience under the supervision of Prof. Giuseppe di Pellegrino and Prof. Sara Borgomaneri.
My research interests focus on neural, physiological and behavioural correlates of fear memories in humans. In particular, I’m interested in the neural systems that allow to reduce or even erase fear from memories. These processes involve interaction between brain areas such as prefrontal cortex, amygdala, and hippocampus. However, the role of the prefrontal cortex is still unclear in humans. Therefore, my goal is a better understanding of the functional role of the prefrontal cortex - in humans - in both the extinction and reconsolidation of fear memories. To this end, my research includes the use of TMS, tDCS or EEG and the recording of physiological measures such as SCR, HRV and EMG.
