Dr Whitford received his Bachelors degree in 2000 (B. Psychology, Hons. I), and his PhD in 2007, from the School of Psychology, University of Sydney. In 2008, he was awarded an Overseas-Based Biomedical Training Fellowship (CJ Martin) from the NHMRC. As part of the Fellowship, he trained at Harvard Medical School from 2008 until 2010 under the mentorship of Prof Martha Shenton and A/Prof Kevin Spencer. In January 2009, he was awarded a Young Investigator Award from the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD). From 2010 to 2011, he was a post-doctoral fellow at University of Melbourne.
