In addition to his research in aerospace engineering, Dr. Luttges had been director of the University of Colorado's Center for Bioserve Space Technologies since its founding in 1987. This institute was at the forefront of the incipient coalition of government, academic and entrepreneurial technology companies wishing to participate in and support space exploration.

Dr. Luttges also worked with several CU-Boulder faculty involved in neuroscience research and brain modeling.
