Bio:

Understanding normal physiology and cellular/molecular injury mechanisms of axons, myelin and glial cells in the mammalian nervous system. These insights will drive the development for more effective therapies for common and debilitating disorders such as multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, brain trauma and stroke. The Stys lab utilizes diverse advanced laser-scanning microscopy methods, many of which are custom-designed and built, biochemical techniques and electrophysiology to investigate axon function and injury mechanisms.
