Dr. John S. Kuo is the founding Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery and the Surgical Director of the Mulva Clinic for the Neurosciences at Dell Medical School of The University of Texas at Austin (UT). He is appointed as Professor with Tenure, and also serves on the faculty of the Institute of Neuroscience and the Institute for Cell and Molecular Biology. He established a new department of regular and affiliate faculty consisting of neurosurgeons, neurosurgeon-educators, neuroscientists, plus clinical, research, admin staff, and educates many UT undergraduate, medical and graduate students and trainees. He helped negotiate and activate clinical programs of excellence in the Pediatric Neurosciences and the Adult Neurological Institute, established new UT campus-wide multidisciplinary disease-oriented research interest groups in brain tumors, cerebrovascular disorders, and functional recovery, and is starting a neurosurgery residency program.
