Dr. Egon L. van den Broek received his M.Sc. degree in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and his Ph.D. degree on Human-Centered Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) both from the Radboud University Nijmegen (RU), The Netherlands. Previously, he has been lecturer and assistant professor in AI at respectively the RU and the Free University Amsterdam. Currently, he is assistant professor in Man-Machine Interaction, CTIT, University of Twente, member of the board of the post-doctoral professional education center on Ergonomics, visiting assistant professor in AI at the RU, and consultant for Philips Research. Van den Broek coordinates the specialization Cognition, Media, and Ergonomics at the UT, lectures several courses, and guides BSc, MSc, and PhD-students. He is involved in several European and national research projects in the areas of AI, Virtual Reality, image processing, man-machine interaction, cognitive science, emotion, and psychophysiology. He has developed the online CBIR system http://www.m4art.org. His work has resulted in over 100 articles, a patent, bookchapters, patents, lectures, and interviews.
