Cristovam W Picanço Diniz obtained his medical degree at the Federal University of Pará, his master in Biophysics and Doctoral Degree in Sciences at the Instituto de Biofísica Carlos Chagas Filho of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He has occupied administrative positions as Coordinator of the Post-Graduation of Biological Sciences Program, as Vice-Chancellor for Research and Post-Graduated Studies and as Chancellor of the Federal University of Pará between 1991 and 2001. He is Associated Professor of Neuroanatomy at the Biological Sciences Institute of UFPA and Head of the Lab of Investigations in Neurodegeneration and Infection at the University Hospital João de Barros Barreto. Neuroanatomy, electrophysiology and behavioral studies have been the focus of his interest applied to the normal and altered mammalian brain.
