Roman R. Poznanski is the founder and chief editor of the Journal of Integrative Neuroscience®. Roman Poznanski also owns the registered trademark of the Journal of Integrative Neuroscience®. He is often recognized for his work for modeling retinal mechanisms in visual perception in close collaboration with Prof. W.R. Levick from the John Curtin School of Medicine, Australian National University in Canberra. He subsequently developed a more accurate model of a starburst amacrine cell to show how these cells' network processes direction-selectivity. His modeling work was the first to rigorously predict a locus of retinal direction selectivity; this prediction has been validated experimentally. In subsequent years he developed the field of integrative neuroscience. Integrative neuroscience is a field that spans brain function across the scale from the molecular to the system level. Yet, it differs from regular neuroscience in its heavy use of mathematics to enable the integration to be achieved theoretically. Integrative neuroscience's uniqueness is that it sculptures theoretical neuroscience with mathematical neuroscience that is different from computational neuroscience. He is a co-author of Mathematical Neuroscience with Polish mathematician Stanislaw Brzychczy. The book shows that compartmentalization and discretization are subject to dynamical misalignment through nonlinear analysis; thus, multiple-scale approaches are incapable of harnessing bridges across the scale. He remains active in research working on biological consciousness, the two-brains hypothesis, and neuronal network modeling.
