Obit, from http://www.upenn.edu/gazette/1100/1100obits.html: Dr. John R. Williamson, Philadelphia, professor of biochemistry and biophysics; Feb. 3. He joined Penn’s Johnson Research Foundation in 1963 as a research associate, and was appointed assistant professor of biochemistry and biophysics in 1965 and full professor in 1975. His early research produced key descriptions of cellular bioenergetics and the regulation of intermediary metabolism; later he focussed on molecular mechanisms of hormonal signal transduction. Dr. Williamson was chair of the biochemistry graduate group, 1993-97. He served on the editorial boards of a number of scientific journals, including the Journal of Biological Chemistry and Biochimica Biophysica Acta. He was a member of the Biochemical Society of the United Kingdom.
