The Biografisch Woordenboek van Nederland mentions Prof P. Ruitinga as his advisor, while the Album Academicum of the University of Amsterdam http://albumacademicum.uva.nl/ has Prof W.M. de Vries as his formal sponsor ('promotor').
According to the Album Academicum was appointed Prof of internal medicine in Amsterdam in 1938. January 31, 1942 he was arrested by the German occupation authorities, and fired from his position as of March 1, 1942. After the end of WW-II he was re-instated, and served in that position until his retirement, September 1973
