Xiaoxu finished one year of training in information science and technology at Beijing Normal University and changed major to obtain a bachelor's degree in bioscience in 2013. During this time he was supervised by Dr. Xiaobo Qiu as an undergrad research assistant. He then pursued his PhD with Dr. Liping Wei at Peking University in bioinformatics. After graduation in 2018, he started his postdoc research at the University of California, San Diego, with Dr. Joseph Gleeson. He started his research lab at the University of Utah in 2024.
