Mark Blumberg has joined the Cognitive Neurophysiology Research Group in the Spring of 2007 and acts as the Clinical Research Coordinator and Lab Manager. Marks primary research is concerned with patients implanted with intracranial EEG electrodes and on functional MRI of language processing.
Mark holds a B.A. from Hampshire College, where he studied neuroscience and music. His research focused on adult, experience-dependent neural plasticity, especially in response to musical stimuli. For his final project, he investigated the rehabilitative effect of music training on the frequency discrimination abilities of two cochlear implant users. He presented his results at the first Music and Mind Symposium at Harvard and the CIEL Conference at Pitzer College. Since then, he has initiated work with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra to develop an outreach program for deaf and hard-of-hearing classrooms based on these preliminary findings.
