Professor Mauro was a co-inventor of the radio-frequency cardiac pacemakers, one of the first pacemakers. Born in New Haven, Professor Mauro graduated from Yale University, where he also earned a doctorate. From 1951 to 1958, when he joined Rockefeller, he taught at the Yale University School of Medicine.
