Joseph Wolpe obtained his MD from the psychoanalytically
oriented Department of Psychiatry ofWitwatersrand University in
South Africa. While there, he attended lectures on learning theory by Leo J. Reyna
who subsequently directedWolpe’s doctoral dissertation.
