1852-1932. Born in Australia and educated in Edinburgh (Medicine and Surgery, graduated 1875). Studied antiseptic surgery methods and the use of tuberculin as a therapy for tuberculosis. Winner of the Lister Medal in 1924. Was President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, 1914-16.
