"Mayra Mori"Bio:
Mayra Mori , Ph.D., is a senior scientific publications manager at Medtronic Inc, headed by Dr Dave Bowman, global medical affairs director. Previously, she worked as a manager of Scientific affairs at Crucell B.V. a Johnson & Johnson company, part of the top management team led by the CSO, Dr Jaap Goudsmit. She worked as a postdoctoral scientist in the Neuropharmacology and Neurophysiology department at Pfizer (former Wyeth). She graduated as a nurse practitioner and received a M.S. and a Ph.D. degrees from Federal University of Sao Paulo. She received predoctoral grants from the National Counsel of Technological and Scientific Development (CNPq) and Foundation of Support to the Research of the State of São Paulo (FAPESP) to study the biochemical changes in the hippocampus during epileptogenesis using the pilocarpine model under Drs Cavalheiro and Naffah-Mazzacoratti. With an Epilepsy Foundation and Milken Family Foundation postdoctoral fellowship she went to Baylor College of Medicine with Dr Jeffrey Noebels, where her research focused on the molecular and genetics changes that lead to cell death and neurogenesis in genetic mouse models. She moved into Stroke research during her postdoc at Pfizer (former Wyeth), where she has been working on the characterization of TRPM channels using electrophysiological automated systems with Drs John Dunlop, Mark Bowlby and Steve Lin. At Pfizer, she has served as a postdoctoral lieu, interfacing with postdoctoral fellows, mentors and directors as well as organizing the scientific meetings. At Crucell, she managed the R&D portfolio and lead the teams for publication strategy and scientific medical communications, and was the media contact for the company since joining in 2010. Currently, Mayra is responsible for the international publication strategy of the medical affairs department at Medtronic. She is the recipient of four young investigator awards for her research in Epilepsy: Brazilian Clinical Neurophysiology society (1998), American Epilepsy Society (2001 and 2004) and Workshop on the Neurobiology of Epilepsy (2003). She is a member of the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals, Society for Neuroscience, American Epilepsy Society and New York Academy of Sciences.
