Bio:

Son of Jan B Jansen (who started the Oslo School of Neuroanatomy together with Alf Brodal). Postdoctoral fellow with Peter Matthews at Oxford, where he helped lay the foundation for the discovery of the two different types of fusimotor fibers: static and dynamic. Sabbatical at Harvard University where he worked together with John Nicholls on neuron properties, synaptic connections, and regenerative potential in the leech nervous system. Close colleagues with and published together with Per Andersen and Terje Lømo. Shared the prestigious Norwegian 'Ander Jahres Prize for Young Researchers' with Per Andersen. Recruited and supervised a number of foreign postdoctoral fellows who later established successful careers in neuroscience, including David Van Essen, Wes Thompson, Eric Frank, Richard Ribchester, Damien Kuffler, Joel C. Glover. Died in 2011.
