Franklin M. Henry, an expert in physical education, died on Sept. 13, 1993, in Oakland. He was 89.
Mr. Henry was a professor emeritus of physical education at the University of California at Berkeley. His specialty was metabolism and cardiovascular functions during exercise, and he wrote many articles on those subjects for scientific journals.
During World War II, he was a consultant to the Air Force aeromedical laboratory, researching physiological responses at high altitudes.
He earned his bachelor's degree at Berkeley in 1935 and a Ph.D. in 1938. He joined Berkeley's physical education faculty in 1938 and remained until he retired in 1971.
He was honored in 1975 with the highest scientific distinction of the American College of Sports Medicine, the Honor Award.
A native of Helena, Mont., he also built and operated a small broadcasting station in Colorado Springs.
